Prince Fielder for Hanley Ramirez - WHIR

Hey guys,

In my keeper league I've been offered Hanley Ramirez and a 6th round pick next year for Prince Fielder and a 3rd round pick next year. My team is currently in 8th place out of 12, but I'm only 12 games back from first, so I am still in win-this-year mode. My team is at the top of the league in Runs, HRs, and RBIs, but I am seriously lacking in Hits, Avg, and SBs. I also have serious holes at 2b and SS, but I am hoping one of Casilla, Ackley, or Lawrie will turn out to be a reliable 2b going forward. I'm more concerned with SS...

We can keep 3 players per year, while giving up the draft pick of the round they were selected the previous year. You can also only keep 2 batters or 2 pitchers. If the season ended today, I would keep Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Braun, and forfeit my first two picks next season. If I did this trade, I most likely would not keep Hanley Ramirez anyways, because Cabrera and Braun are too good to give away. Does trading Fielder and next year's 3rd round pick for Hanley and next year's 6th round pick help me?

I give: Fielder, 2012 3rd round pick
I get: Hanley, 2012 6th round pick

If you guys think this is a good trade, I might just ask him to take out the draft picks next year, or change it to a 4/5 round swap instead of the proposed 3/6 swap. What do you think?

Just my two cents yet I would not do this trade. Hanley has given no indication of turning things around. I agree with you trying to move fielder yet you can get more than hanley for him. Plus the draft pick aspect really turns this into a one sided deal. I would try and move fielder for another top line SP such as hanson, price, etc. or a top 2b. I like ackley so may have already solved that problem.

If your team needed more power I would say this trade makes sense (Fielder is having another one of his monster years), but your team has power to spare. Dee Gordon is a good fill in while Hanley takes his time getting it going. It was kind of the same story for Hanley last year and he caught fire in the second half.

All in all I don't feel this trade makes much sense for you. It is a fair offer minus the picks. 3rd for a 6th is just him being greedy. You should be able to make this deal without giving up your 3rd round pick.

I'm new at this too, and I have HanRam right now. I would take Fielder in a heartbeat. I would not do the trade.

I'm confused, in this trade I am receiving Hanley/6 and giving up Fielder/3. What do you think?

stay with what you have. when i read the title of the post thinking it was straight up i was having a hard time deciding but once i saw that picks were involved i was sure that you should stick with what you have
