Am I nuts for trading Votto? WHIR

Postby JJGBPD » Fri Jun 17, 2011 6:32 am

Okay, so I'm in an 8 team 5x5 head to head league.

I traded Votto, Cruz, Marcum and Jurrjens away for Konerko, Granderson, Quentin and Shields.

I hated giving up Votto, but I have Braun as my #1 pick still. I'm banking on Konerko being consistent and Grandy keeping up some kind of pace similar to what he's doing now. Quentin was a nice piece to play in a utility spot. Shields has been great and is currently the #8 ranked fantasy pitcher. Jurrjens I liked, but he is a liability with K's. Cruz was hurting my batting average although I expect he'll definitely come up from the .220 area.

Just looking for thoughts. This is what's left (always had weak pitching).

C - Joe Mauer
1B - Paul Konerko
2B - Howie Kendrick
3B - Michael Young
SS - Hanley Ramirez
OF - Ryan Braun
OF - Matt Holliday
OF - Curtis Granderson
UT - Jay Bruce
UT - Carlos Quentin
BN - Aramis Ramirez

SP - James Shields
SP - Daniel Hudson
SP - Michael Pineda
SP - Ian Kennedy
SP - C. J. Wilson
SP - Phil Humber
SP - Dillon Gee
SP - Bud Norris
DL - Brandon Beachy

RP - Brian Wilson
RP - Ryan Madson
RP - Craig Kimbrel
RP - Huston Street

Thanks!

Konerko --- slight downgrade from Votto... He has been producing very very well this year
Granderson --- one of the best OF in the game right now is a nice upgrade
Quentin --- I'd take Quentin over JJ. He's had a nice year rather quietly
Shields --- I like Shields better than Marcum. Marcum is a good pitcher on a good team. Shields has simply been a beast this year. (Shields is ranked 26 overall compared to Marcum at 30 in the Y! game, so both are good.)

Assuming production continues in each player you trade for, this trade is great for you.

I would not have dealt votto for that. Sorry. You dealt a first rounder for nothing close to a 1st rounder. Grandersons had a great first half, I wouldnt pay for it and bank on the same? Quentins a health risk, not in love with him and shields has been good, but his second half splits dont lend well and he's never been this good to start with?

votto is pujols LITE..... he's not even "slightly" better than Konerko.... He's much better, higher avg, chips in 10+ sb's.... votto is a top 5 overall player in mybooks.

if you can help me I appreciate it, i was just giving my honest opinion.

Like I said, it was hard to let Votto go. I am a huge fan and I know he's a first rounder, but, I also have 1st rounders in HanRam and Braun. I think I get better depth overall doing this trade in the offense.

Baseball Monster rest of the season projections has Votto #5, Granderson #8 and Konerko #15. Add in Braun at #4, Holliday at #9, and Bruce at #11, and this trade gives me 5 of the "projected" top 15 offensive producers the rest of the season. We'll see if this comes to fruition.

I do regret letting Votto go, but I think I made out okay. Love the feedback though!

"1st round" looks irrelevant here since there is no word of this being a keeper league and we are halfway through June. Draft positions don't matter the minute after the draft is over.

Ultimately, I just think you gave up too much in extra pieces, but it is definitely close and fair. I am a Konerko owner so I know how underrated and under-appreciated he is.

I probably would have held onto Marcum and shipped out someone of lesser value.
