Power Catcher needed to temporarily replace Napoli

Postby KobraCola » Mon Jun 13, 2011 12:47 am

League type: H2H,12-team, non-keeper
League Settings: Categories: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, W, S, K, ERA, WHIP
My Roster:
C: Mike Napoli (DL now)
1B: Paul Konerko
2B: Brandon Phillips
3B: Evan Longoria
SS: Jose Reyes
OF: Drew Stubbs
OF: Ichiro Suzuki
OF: Corey Hart
Util: Anthony Rizzo
Util: Vlad Guerrero
DL: David Freese

SP: Matt Cain
SP: Felix Hernandez
RP: Ryan Madson
RP: Mark Melancon
P: Chris Perez
P: Jeremy Hellickson
P: Jair Jurrjens
P: Anibal Sanchez
BN: Kyle Lohse
BN: Brandon Morrow
BN: Gavin Floyd
BN: Zach Britton

My question is, Napoli just got injured, so he can take a seat on my bench till he's hitting again, but in the meanwhile, I need to pick up a catcher or I lose that roster spot every day. The best available catchers in my league appear to be Lucroy, Wilson Ramos, Varitek, and Saltalamacchia. Varitek and Salt have both been great lately, but they don't really get enough at bats. Lucroy is by far the best available catcher, but he's been slumping lately. I need HR, RBI, and R in that order of importance, I am first in SB and 2nd in AVG in my league, so those are fairly unimportant for this temporary pick-up. Should I take the slumping Lucroy, doing-better Ramos, or gamble on Varitek/Salt even though both get fewer AB's because of the other one? No, Ianneta is not available in my league, and neither are such so-so C's like Kurt Suzuki, Ramon Hernandez, Matt Wieters, Geovany Soto, Yadier Molina, J.P. Arencibia, and Miguel Olivo.

Salty. You can't really complain about limited playing time if you were running out Mike Napoli every day. Salty's got the best HR/RBI/R potential, I'd gamble with him.

I would have to go with Lucroy to be honest...he is in a solid lineup and I will take the everyday catcher over the others (even though they're in an even better lineup haha). Lucroy will definitely be a solid backup, especially if he can turn it on again! Good luck! ;-D

Have to agree with BigAnt here, I think Lucroy is your best option. Plus he is in a offensive heavy lineup.

Lucroy is the easy call. He isn't a monster power bat, but he is clearly the best option on that list.
