Trade Wright? or wrong move? WHIR

Postby Cream » Sun Jun 12, 2011 2:59 pm

Considering dealing Wright. My offense is pretty strong and pitching could certainly use some help. It is a 5x5 H2H league with 8 keepers (no limits or restrictions). We can also trade draft picks.

One manager is looking to acquire Wright, who I'm willing to trade. I'm not sure he has the goods to acquire him though...

My team:

C Posada
1B Moreland
2B Cano
SS Hardy
3B Aramis Ramirez
CI M. Young
MI J. Turner
LF Braun
CF Kemp
RF Cruz
OF Melky
UTIL Pagan

BN Rios
BN Soriano
DL Wright, Belt

SP Chacin
SP Nolasco
SP Jimenez
SP Hellickson
SP C. Lewis
RP Santos
RP Francisco
RP Motte
RP Thornton
RP Alburquerque

BN W Rodriguez
BN Richard
BN Beachy
DL Wainwright

Players I'd be interested in on his team include: Cliff Lee, Scherzer, Gio Gonzalez and a handful of hitters, although I don't see the point in involving them if I feel good about my offense going forward.

Is a combination of Lee/Scherzer, Gonzalez and maybe a first rounder enough in return for Wright?

Leave a link.

You will not get any value trading Wright for pitchers. For one, you're gonna have to drop a player just to replace the roster spot for a 1/1 trade..... now you want two more pitchers which means you're gonna have to drop two more players. Even though you think your offense doesn't need any help, unless you get another bat and a good pitcher a deal for Wright is a huge loss for you.

I don't have a lot of experience with keeper leagues, so take this with a grain of salt:

I think it would be difficult to get fair value for wright right now. We don't know when he'll be back this year - they seem to have no idea what to do with this back fracture - but he's a top-20 pick every year. Wright's only 28, I believe, and Lee is 32. You don't mention how many teams are in the league. I think you'd need to go Lee plus something- I don't know if Gonzalez is enough better than replacement level in your league to make up the difference between Wright and Lee. Pitching is deep and getting deeper. You also have Wainwright next year -- Maybe Lee plus a decent bat?

On the other hand, if you can swing getting Lee *and* Scherzer, (hey, they're both underperforming right now), I'd probably do it, if you have a chance to win this year. Your offense is solid.
