Based on Oakland's current save rate, Bailey is only on pace for 18-19 saves the rest of the year. I know he has awesome talent and strikeout potential, but if he's not pitching it doesn't matter. Bailey is not projected to be a keeper on my team, so I am only interested in one question:
Between Tim Stauffer and Andrew Bailey, who will outproduce who this year in my league's format?
League Scoring Details: Blown Saves: -3 points Earned Runs: -1 point Holds: 5 points Innings: 0.5 points Strikeouts: 1 point Losses: -5 points Pick Offs: 1 point Saves: 6 points Shutouts: 3 points Wins: 10 points
As I see the direction the posts are going, I want to add a little clarity to my question:
This isn't who has better stuff, but who is going to produce more fantasy points for my team this year. The Oakland A's are 3rd worst in runs scored and tied for 6th worst in save opportunities this year. Andrew Bailey can be the best closer in the game, and it wouldn't matter if he's not pitching.

Are you planning on dropping Bailey for Stauffer? Trade Bailey for Stauffer? What is the situation?
Either finding value in trading Bailey or just dropping him outright for Stauffer. I expect about 8 wins out of Stauffer at a minimum the rest of the way. He's had 8 quality starts out of 13 attempts, a decent k/9 ratio, and his walk rate is down. Just throwing 120 innings itself will earn him 60 points. Add strike outs to that and Stauffer is at that 120 mark mentioned.
Dropping Bailey mentally sounds like a bad move, but I'm having trouble seeing him out produce Stauffer.
Our league requires 3 relief positions and my other two relief options are Carlos Zambrano and Heath Bell.
I'd probably go Bailey here. I don't read much into the generating save opportunity theories. That's just a crapshoot. From year to year the save leaders come from both good and bad teams at times. The A's are competitive enough that they should produce save opportunities. Stauffer is solid, but I wouldn't drop Bailey for him. Maybe someone else, but not Bailey.
