Hamels for Asdrubal straight up?

Postby crazycooter » Fri Jun 10, 2011 11:15 am

I have been offered Asdrubal Cabrera for Cole Hamels straight up. It is a standard 5x5 roto league. I am currently leading the standings by a whopping 17 points. I have 9 or 10 points in every pitching category. My offense is not quite as good: R - 6; HR - 9; RBI - 8; SB - 4; AVG - 6.

My roster is:

C - Brian McCann
1B - Prince Fielder
2B - Rickie Weeks
3B - Evan Longoria
SS - JJ Hardy
2B/SS - Neil Walker
1B/3B - Carlos Lee
OF - Nelson Cruz, Andrew McCutcheon, Raul Ibanez, Jon Jay, Jose Tabata, Josh Willingham

P - Hamels, David Price, Jonathan Sanchez, Josh Beckett, Kyle Lohse, Anibal Sanchez, Max Scherzer, Hiroki Kuroda, AJ Burnett
RP - Chris Perez, Leo Nunez, Joel Hanrahan

I'm tempted to grab the offensive boost, but I think I really need help in the outfield more. Plus, now that Scherzer has fallen on harder times, trading Hamels would leave my staff a little bit weak at the top. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't take this trade, the other guy is trying to sell high on Asdrubal, who in my opinion is playing beyond his real value this year.

I would try for a little more in return, maybe another decent starter. But I think it is closer than most. Offense is not as easy to find as pitching and you are trying to fill a need.

That was my initial thought, but the FA wire in my league right now is total junk. Kevin Correia is the most widely owned non-DL available pitcher in the league.

I am also worried about a potential drop off with Cabrera as someone mentioned above. As I recall, he was a waiver wire guy most of last year.

You could use the SS help, but Hamels is worth more.
