Is it safe to drop Lawrie now?

Postby jruffus1 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 6:49 pm

With the new news of Lawries' "hand fracture," its been said that he will be shut down for the next 2-3 weeks. This probably means he wont be called up for over a month+ Is it safe to say that there is no point of hanging onto Lawrie now?

Rotoworld and many other sources have just announced that bone fractures were discovered in Lawrie's hand and he will be shut down for 2-3 weeks. It says that the earliest he would be called up now is like mid-July.

"Blue Jays prospect Brett Lawrie has been diagnosed with a fracture in his left hand.
The Jays were planning to promote Lawrie to the major leagues this week, but that won't be happening now. The 21-year-old third baseman will be shut down for the next two or three weeks and probably won't be ready for his big league debut until mid-July. He was batting .354/.415/.677 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI in 52 games this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.

I assume you read it from Rotoworld or the likes of it.

I'd say its a safe bet that you can drop him. Especially if you have your eye on someone else on the waiver wire. He won't be back until July at the earliest; when he's healed, he will probably have another stint in Triple-A before he makes it back to being called up. Hand fractures can be difficult to come back from too (see Ethier last year).

Unless your league is really intense on waiver pickups, I think you'll be safe to roll with someone else for a few weeks to a month.

Help with mine?

Who would you plan on grabbing? You have KJ and Philips already to cover 2b.
