My "Wait For" Pitching Is Just Terrible. What To Do?

Postby Rmbxr9 » Mon Jun 06, 2011 8:56 pm

18 Team Points.
Currently in 7th place, close to 4th, but a decent separation from there up.

We don't play ERA or WHIP.
Points are: Wins, Losses, Ks, BB, CG, SHO, SV, BSV, HLD

My pitching started off pretty good, but now people like Tomlin and McClellan have fallen back to earth...
My league is so hard though, in that it's all about wins; which is so stupid, and hard to predict.

My Offense is pretty good. But every night lately I'm getting hung with L's from SPs, and the negative points that go with it.

Should I make some moves for pitching, and sacrifice some hitting?
I already have no Closers due to prior trades.

My SPs
J.Chacin
J.Hellickson
J.Arrieta
J.Marquis
J.Tomlin
K.McClellan
J.Vazquez
F.Garcia
D.Fister

Not good...

My Team of things to trade:
C - Arencibia
1B - Hosmer, Smoak
2B - Pedroia
3B - Rolen, S.Rodriguez
SS - J.Reyes
OF - N.Cruz, A.McCuthchen, A.Rios, J.Werth

B - J.Hannahan, Eric Young, D.Fowler

I try to stream some guys, but you get a hard luck loss, or some errors and it's a quick -7 or -10 on the night.
30-35 Points a night on average would win you league...

Kind of long, but thanks.

try to move Hosmer or Smoak. Both have good trade value, might be tough to trade at such a deep position, but worth a shot

Maybe you can package a Hosmer/Werth or Smoak/Werth or whichever OF you choose, for some sort of high end pitcher. Who's on the WW right now for pitching? Are there any teams just as "needy" as you in any other positions that you are good at?

You are going to have to trade bats for arms and pay real attention to match ups and two start options on a weekly basis. There are normally a couple of barely owned SP with great match ups wevery week and, assuming you don't have a low transaction limit, you need to be using them. Agree with cashing in on Hosmer or Smoak.

Thanks for the responses.

As far as WW, the best available are like N.Blackburn and C.Narveson.

I've tried to trade Smoak, but like it was said, everyone seems to have a 1B.
He's the #19 1B in my league, points wise. So it's really not an upgrade at 1B for anyone, you know?

The other thing is, my league is the stingiest trading league ever.
I've offered so many deals that I thought should be made and they're rejected without even a counter.

For instance, I offered this to a guy who "Wanted OFs" "SP Available"

Give - Werth, Rolen, Chacin
Get - Prado, Matusz

To me, that should be accepted... Tradebashers has it at like 90%/10%
You have to offer Godfather like trades to these people...

Also have tried to buy low on C.Carpenter, J.Danks and no bites.

I'd think Hosmer would be easier to trade than Smoak, also dangle Cruz. Makes it tough in leagues that don't like to trade, keep looking ahead, guys like Minor and Cook that play for winning teams
