Huge Trade Offer...WHIR

Postby bobnerns » Thu Jun 02, 2011 7:30 pm

In my 14-team, 25-man roster (3 bench spots), H2H 5x5, non-keeper league, I've been offered the following trade:

I give:
Mark Teixeira
Matt Wieters
JJ Hardy

I get:
Billy Butler
Chris Iannetta
Robinson Cano

My current lineup is
C - Matt Wieters
1B - Mark Teixeira
2B - Brandon Phillips
3B - David Wright
SS - Asdrubal Cabrera
2B/SS - JJ Hardy
1B/3B - Paul Konerko
OF - Ryan Braun, Adam Jones, Coco Crisp, Logan Morrison, Jose Tabata
Utility - Eric Hosmer
Bench - Michael Cuddyer, Dustin Ackley

The reason this trade was offered to me is because the other team really overvalues catchers. He drafted Buster Posey very early and now is panicking with his injury. Obviously the trade favors me, but if I trade away Wieters, there isn't much left at catcher. Iannetta was the best available free agent a few days ago (right now 18 catchers are on rosters).

I'm not a big fan of Butler. People have been waiting for his power to come, but I just don't think it's there. Basically, I would be giving up some home runs in order to get a big boost in average. I'm just not sure if average is that important in a H2H league.

I say counter with the same guys, just take Tex and Butler out. If he really needs a catcher and he values them too high it isn't that bad of an offer to him. Worth a shot...

You're saying essentially a trade of Cano for Wieters?

First, there's no way that would be accepted. Second, that trade would 100% get vetoed if it were accepted (which, again, it wouldn't get accepted).

I think it's decent. Butler is a solid bat, and Cano is a real good buy low, if i can say that. Hardy and Wieters are not big losses IMO given the gain of Butler and Cano. You have Konerko, too, who can replace Teix if playing Butler at 1B is daunting.

You are slightly getting the better end of the deal here, so I agree you should do it. Giving up Tex is a big deal, but you do get Cano and Billy Butler.

I agree, I think you are getting the slightly better deal here. You can't go wrong either way, but I would probably do it. There are plenty of good 1B, but 2B is a hard position to have great talent.

I agree with ATLbraves. You got the slight edge on the deal. Gotta like Cano at a thin 2B position. You can fill 1B with Hosmer or Butler. Only question is there a replacement for Wieters out there?

I would do it and then try to see what you can get for Brandon Phillips. Hosmer should be a very good 1B for the rest of the season.
