The guy keeps his job becuase he's a team leader and gets payed too much to trade or bench. I'm a long time Angel fan, so I'm probably overly optomistic but I have some hope for Erstad this year.
A lot of people think his struggles the past three years were the result of his all out defensive play in center. He dove for everything and was always banged up.
His 'huge' year happened while playing mostly in left. He also had good seasons in 98 and 99 while mostly playing first. The hope is that he can stay healthy playing first and put decent offensive numbers on the board again. I think a .300 average and 20 HRs are very possible.
But back to the original question. You'd have to be crazy to take Erstad over Teixeira.
