Should I Trade Bautista?

Postby OnDeckBatta10 » Mon May 30, 2011 4:35 am

I am considering moving Bautista in my dynasty keeper league in order to fill positions of need. Currently my starting offense is:

C: C. Santana
1B: G. Sanchez
2B: N. Walker
SS: A. Gonzalez
3B: J. Bautista
OF: C. Young
OF: G. Sizemore
OF: M. Cabrera
UT: J. Smoak

Right now I have an offer for my choice of Sandoval or Choo and Andrus for Bautista. Or the same offer with Brett Lawrie included if I also give up Walker.

I have Ackley coming up soon to take over at 2B, so the position will be covered. I need the upgrade at SS since I am still developing Machado.

Thoughts?

No way on any combination of those trades. Choo is slumping, Sandoval is a question mark, Lawrie is unproven and Bautista is the #1 ranked player in fantasy. You should be able to get 2 solid, non-slumping, unhurt, proven players for Bautista....something like the caliber of Pedroia + Holliday....

To poster above, he is in a keepers league so a holliday/pedroia is not likely possible.

I'm sort of in the same situation, and I wouldn't move bautista for anything less than an ace and a stud. ex verlander/Tex. but seems like everyone is questioning "ok so he'll hit 50 again this year but can he do it the year after that and the year after that?" cause verlander is gonna be an ace for a while and Tex is gonna hit 30 every year

just make sure you don't settle for bautista, cause I can see him consistently hitting 40 for 2-3 years

NO! %-6

Seriously, what are you thinking? 8-o

In case you need some reasoning here it is:

You have THE BEST HITTER IN BASEBALL right now! You want to trade him for .... some guys. Maybe at their height they're top 20...maybe. #1 for #20. Does that seem correct? Getting two #20's doesn't add up to #1.

No way you do this. Not knowing your bench, you're also going to have to drop someone. You are panicking, not a smart move in a keeper league. You need to build around someone like Bautista. Unless you can get a couple top 10 guys to fill SS and 3B/OF there is no reason to move him. And trust me, if other managers smell blood and see that you are tying to move him they will low ball you.
