Gotta cut: Belt or Smoak? WHIR

Postby Mark Davis » Sun May 29, 2011 11:50 am

I'm adding Bedard this week to get a 2 start pitcher in my lineup and avoid some bad matchups. My offense is pretty loaded, here is my 1b/of/dh situation:

1B: I Davis, Hosmer, Smoak, Belt
OF: Braun, Hamilton, Ethier, Stanton

So basically I have to bench I Davis or Hosmer once Ike returns as is. While I'm not thrilled about the way San Francisco is using Belt from the bench I don't have to have someone to play right now. Due to injuries to Ike and Ethier I've been using Smoak the past 2 weeks and he's really tailed off. This is a keeper league but it's only 7 players to keep so it's a bit unlikely I keep either of them.

I'd prefer to keep the one with the higher upside. Who would you choose to keep and who to cut? WHIR. Thanks!

I would cut Belt because at least Smoak is playing regularly and has shown an ability to handle major league pitching. Belt has upside but the benching and growing pains are a deterrent.

Help me?

Keeper league I drop Smoak. If you weren't going to be playing Smoak anyway, what's the point. If Belt starts heating up he can always be valuable in trades with keeper leagues.

I would cut Belt. Smoak has shown that he is good, and he is just in a little slide. He has driven in runs even while playing for the Mariners, and has legit power. Belt can do all of these things, but not as well when he's on the bench. And in response to what the guy said above me, won't Smoak be just as good for trade bait if he gets hot? He would be better because he has a starting spot every day, whereas Belt does not and may not all year.

Thanks for the help on mine.

Cut Belt... No point in using a keeper pick on him and his upside is in the potential value of his career anyways, not this season.

Belt seems less assured of at bats.
Lose him.

Smoak is probably the better bet.
