Howard/Oswalt for Uggla/Verlander (WHIR)

Postby jpbusta » Sun May 29, 2011 12:06 am

I'm in a 12 team 5x5 roto.

I've been offered Uggla and Verlander for my Howard and Oswalt

I really need a Uggla and I've been trying to get him but am I paying too much for the slumping sluggger? I love Verlander over Oswalt though.

Also, by trading away Howard, I'd be able to start Hosmer at ut.

C: Vmart

2b: Cuddyer
3b: Youkilis

SP: Halladay, Cliff Lee, Oswalt, Scherzer, Cueto, Bedard

I like this for you. Like you said Verlander over Oswalt is clutch. With Hosmer on the bench he can go right to Util. Get rid of Howard no Biggy. Like you said you can use uggla. Go for it!

I'm a big fan of doing a deal if it's close, but you are getting the best player out of the deal overall. I think Verlander is the best player in this deal. Uggla worries me though, as he's done nothing all year. However, you do need help at 2nd base and if you can absorb Uggla's bad AVG then I would do the deal.

Good luck!

Uggla is too good to do this for the rest of the year plus hes a huge upgrade at 2B. I also love Verlander over Oswalt but not by much

yeah this is a huge upgrade at 2B despite Uggla's struggles since I have him on mine and I'm waiting it out for him as well. Uggla can't hit .180 all year or less every week I think he picks it up and i love Verlander.

I'm surprised ppl think I should do this trade. Tells me ppl's concepts on Howard. He seems to be undervalued by most ppl. :-?

I would probably do the trade. Oswalt is a good SP, Verlander is more of an "ace" though. As for Uggla, his BABIP is an extremely unlucky .190. It will inevitably climb up, meaning his batting average will increase as well. He is also better than Cuddyer.

As for the OP's Howard question...he is surely good, but you have plenty of power on the roster as it is.

Like the trade? viewtopic.php?t=431976

I guess I'll be in the minority here. I think you are WAY undervaluing Howard here. He's by far the best player in this deal. And I don't trade bats for pitching. Pitching always shows up during the year. Verlander may be better then Oswalt, but I'm not seeing that huge of a gap. You are hoping Uggla gets it together. 1/3 of the season gone, and it's not really looking that way. And sliding in Hosmer in the UT spot in place of Howard is putting a lot of faith in a rookie. I don't really see this as a win for you.

I think this is a very close offer. Without seeing the rest of your lineup, I think I'd side with the Howard side. I'm not a huge fan of Howard as his stats are declining over the years. However, Uggla has struggled all year. I agree he's too good not to do better, but I don't see him pounding them out like he did last year. I love Verlander over Oswalt, but I'd rather keep the bat over pitching when a deal is close. Keep Howard/Oswalt.

If this were Howard/Wood for Uggla/Verlander, then I'd probably get on board. But as it stands you are giving up too much value, so I wouldn't do this trade..
