I recently made a package trade that left me with an open roster spot, so I picked up Vogelsong from the FA. So far this season, I have picked up a lot of guys that have transformed into pretty good trading chips (Britton, Polanco, etc). Any chance that this guy could keep up his role and develop some value as well?
Not as good as Colby Lewis, a similar top prospect who disappeared from the majors to go abroad for several years, due to his lack of k's, but he will have value throughout the season. Finishing up around 4.15, 1.18, 145k's, 11 wins. Watch out for the Giants Defense though; a groundball pitcher like Vogelsong better hope Tejada doesn't stick at SS.
You think you have picked up bad people and watched while they changed good? I picked up Lohse, Tomlin, Ogando, and Joyce before they blew up. Well in other words i picked up Vogelsong earlier this week and he didnt do too bad this week. I would grab him hes been doing pretty good recently.
I don't think this year will be overly kind to him. He could succeed, but the odds are kinda stacked against him. He doesn't have great strikeout numbers and San Fran isn't great with run support either. Like someone else eluded to, I believe his numbers will probably falter over the season, and even if he keeps his stuff, the team could still lose him the game... Not to mention he just lost his catcher, which is a big deal in its own right.
