Just completed a trade for Tulo in which I gave up Rollins/Scherzer in a 12 team keeper points league. Now I need to pick up a pitcher a replacement pitcher. Somebody picked up Wandy Rodriguez before the trade was completed ($#@$#@$%#@). Not to worry though, pitching becomes available all the time in this league.
Currently Hudson and Dempster are available. Hudson will probably end up with a better ERA and more wins, but Dempster will have many more strikeouts (valuable in this league). Has anyone watched many of their games? How has each looked? Who is the better option? Edwin Jackson is also available.
Dempster has fared well in 4/5 starts, with a couple of wins, an 11 K performance, and a 3.09 era. I gotta give him the nod here. Hudson's K's are so unimpressive and Jackson is too prone to getting bombed. Just saw the new additions, I would stick with Dempster but narrowly over Bedard. I would be fine with you picking up either one.
Go for Dempster. He is underrated. He has had three great years in a row. He will pick things up and be good for the rest of the year.
Hudson can be golden, but he is also old and has over-performed so far.
Bedard: health risk but lots of upside; may struggle for W's on the M's Zimmerman: I like him, but he will struggle for W's. Myers: meh Matusz: big question mark. EJackson: stay away, too inconsistent Carmona: stay away, also inconsistent
Matusz is straight skilled, the guy is amazing and coming back soon. Zimmerman has the second most potential here. Hudson has shown how dominant he can be and I think even with low K's will be very valuable. Bedard is playing great, but he will break down, a nice stopgap. Dempster will get you K's, but he will also balloon you ERA once every other week at least.
Bedard is going to fail... Zim will too eventually... but it doesn't mean it won't be worth the ride. My order goes: Edwin Jackson, Hudson then Zim... but remember, no one is a winner when they bet on DC area sports.
