Dan Haren for Ryan Zimmerman

Postby skjelstrom » Thu May 26, 2011 3:22 pm

With a plethora of SP in FA pool I thought I would try to shop Haren and the main position I need is at 3B with Alex Gordon manning the position. The only other position I need help is 2B but I can't get much value from Dan Uggla and I think he will turn it around.

I give: Dan Haren
I get: Ryan Zimmerman

The guy also has Evan Longoria so I wouldn't need to compensate him with a 3B. I dont know much about Zimmerman's injury though, is it something too worrisome to trade away an ace for?

I would then most likely drop Mark Reynolds and pick up one of Daniel Hudson, Madison Bumgarner, Alexi Ogando, or Anibal Sanchez from the FA pool.

Oh and I also have Roy Halladay, Ricky Nolasco, Jhoulys Chacin, Jeremey Hellickson, Francisco Liriano, and Bud Norris as my SP's :-b so I don't think it would be a HUGE loss.

Tough one. I really like Zimmerman, but he is 2-4 weeks from returning. That's a lot of time to give up and Haren for a healthy Zimmerman would be nearly even at this point. Get a better hitter for Haren, or give him a lesser arm, then hit the wire and pick up those studs on the wire.

The trade itself is fair, if he will pull the trigger, I would also say however that you should be picking up those FA starters right now, as the are better than what your pitching staff is currently:

I would take

Daniel Hudson,
Alexi Ogando,
Anibal Sanchez

over:

Bud Norris
Jeremey Hellickson,
Francisco Liriano

Gordon is doing well, why trade for a new 3rd baseman who may not even be back for another month?

I wouldnt drop Hellickson, but the other 2 for Sanchez or Hudson or even Bumgarner is a smart pickup
