I like it. Particularly if you're looking to win this season. The biggest problem I see is that Howard's probably reaching the max of his value in a capped league, so he's not going to be a long term acquisition. But, I've not been a believer in Upton ever putting it together, and I think Tabata will be a more consistent option than him within a few seasons. So I like Howard + Tabata more than Kennedy + Upton. Martin is having a pretty unsustainable HR/FB% if you ask me; I don't think he's all of a sudden turned into a 30 homerun hitter. As far as the catchers you'd be receiving... Napoli is probably "safer." Although I don't know how long that lasts if he continues to hit under .200, though I do think that'll rebound some. This all just my own speculation, but I think Doumit gets traded somewhere with a full time gig before the deadline. So he could definitely be a high reward option if you were willing to risk it. But all in all, I do like Howard+tabata+either catcher more.
I like the deal for this season. The only problem is keeping Howard for $35 while he is regressing is troublesome..... If you are looking to win NOW do it. If not, I still might do it as you have plenty of pitching to be able to lose Kennedy and you would be able to fill in for Upton fine.
thanks for mine. hate to just agree, but i do. the $35 howard price tag is steep but it's not like even a $16 BJ upton is THAT awesome, he'll always be a 5-tool tease in my eyes. do it and go for broke this year, IMO. and tabata is a nice potential keeper, great speed.
You're deep at outfield so this would be a good trade to try and win this year, but I really like Martin, Upton and Kennedy, plus you'd be getting a poor catcher in return, as long as napoli keeps hitting on the interstate. Bottem line, if your willing to gamble on the future in order for a shot to win now, do it.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. But, I have to say I like this deal. You are getting the best player in the deal at not a bad price and aren't giving up much. Also I love the potential of Tabata. I think he gets his avg back up and continues to steal leaving him with a nice season. And you know he is gonna play everyday since he is on the Pirates. And I would take Doumit who has been having a solid season when he plays.
