On this day (26 May): 1912: A bad man gets traded. Chick Gandil, infamous ringleader of the 1919 Black Sox, is traded from Montreal (of the International League) to Washington. He went on to place 11th in the MVP voting that year, with an astounding 2 HRs and 19 steals (caught stealing 17 times).
Also.......(25 May) 1984: A million horrors are on their way for a generation of Red Sox fans, as the Sox trade Dennis Eckersley and Mike Brumley for......wait for it........Bill Buckner. (Lightning flashes, wolves howl) 1989: The Montreal Expos trade Gene Harris, Brian Holman and (WHOOPS) Randy Johnson for Mark Langston and PTBNL. Langston threw 176 (quite good) innings for Montreal, then departed as a free agent. RJ threw 1838 (mostly epic) innings for Seattle.
And now for a band I grew up on, one of the true greats...............
Jordan Lyles, Astros: Lyles is Houston’s top prospect, at least according to our own Marc Hulet. Lyles isn’t anything spectacular, but he has a decent arsenal and has consistently posted FIPs in the 3s throughout his minor league career. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lyles up in the big leagues within a month or two, as the Astros need to take a look and see what they have long term with this guy. He won’t be great when he first comes up, but he could be a NL spot starter, at the very least. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index. ... -pitchers/
I gotta start Morrow against Chicago, even though he's been struggling. Chicago sucks. Mighty Max against Boston...still on the fence. But I'm not asking for any haiku opinions about that one, since you all made me sit IPK yesterday
She said always remember never to trust me She said that the first night that she met me She said "there's gonna be a time when I'm gonna have to go with whoever's gonna get me the highest."
