Bonds made it over a month ago when he visited Stow in a Southern California hospital on April 22. No mention was made to the media then and it looks like it would have still been a secret had Girardi not revealed it to the media
its been a known fact for years that Bonds gives tons of money to charity, but refuses to let the media know about it for a number of reasons. Now these poor kids wil be hounded by reporters for years asking them their opinion on steroids, bonds and the hof, kimberly bell, war, the price of gas, and any other rounds of bullshit they can come up with to try and smear the guy.
George Steinbrenner gave a lot of anonymous charity too. That doesn't mean he wasn't also a heinous dick. Same goes for Bonds.
(Note: I'm not talking about the steroids. I'm talking about the general heinous dickery.)
She said always remember never to trust me She said that the first night that she met me She said "there's gonna be a time when I'm gonna have to go with whoever's gonna get me the highest."
I can think of no more appropriate time to use my favorite Dr. Who quote.
Margaret: I spared her life. The Doctor: You let one of them go but that's nothing new. Every now and then a little victim's spared because she smiled, 'cause he's got freckles. 'Cause they begged. And that's how you live with yourself. That's how you slaughter millions. Because once in awhile—on a whim, if the wind's in the right direction—you happen to be kind. Margaret: Only a killer would know that.
There's a difference between donating to corporate charities to write off some taxes and what Bonds did. I never thought Bonds was a jerk, he just was a really private guy who learned that from watching how people treated his dad. San Fran fans love him and the media doesn't. Am I going to take the media's side or Bonds' side. Um, that's a no brainer. The only problem I ever had with Bonds is that once records were in sight he should have taken a dive. But, when the record is McGwire's whom I'm sure Bonds knew was a user even that is forgivable.

It's amazing how much of an impact the media's portrayal of a player affects how the general public perceives him. It's a shame, really...
