Ellsbury for Garcia in a keeper league? WHIR

Postby DrDC » Wed May 25, 2011 4:51 pm

I was offered Jaime Garcia for Jacoby Ellsbury. Should I do this?

Here are the scoring categories in my roto league: HR, SB, K, AVG, OBP, SLG for hitters, and QS, SV, K, ERA, H/9, BB/9 for pitchers.

I am leading the league by a good margin in SB. Both players appear to be great keepers, since we use auction value x 110% as how much we spend on the keepers next year. I got Ellsbury for $8 this year and he got Garcia for $1. So next year, Ellsbury would be a keeper at $9, and Garcia $2.

If I trade Ellsbury, I could pick up Beltran to fill in. I am low on HR, so this would help there.

My roster:

C- R. Martin
1B- Votto
2B- Utley
3B- Bautista
SS- Reyes
LF- Joyce
CF- Ellsbury
RF- Ichiro
Util- Berkman
BN- R. Roberts, Wieters, Lowrie

SP- C. Lee
SP- Marcum
SP- Pineda
SP- Romero
SP- Billingsley
RP- Rivera
RP- Valverde
BN- Peavy, Latos

I'm looking for some in-depth analysis. Thanks a bunch guys!

I think you have a really solid staff, no need to go get Garcia. Plus you don't have a lot of depth to slot in for Ellsbury if you get rid of him. I think he'll be even better once the rest of the Red Sox lineup starts hitting (like they did today). Garcia is good, but still relatively unproven and doesn't get a lot of Ks. I would hold steady if I were you, or at least try to get more for Ellsbury.

Keep Ells here. Your staff is already solid and Ellsbury is worth more in my opinion.

I think it leaves a hole in your OF and there isn't a clear winner, so I would hold tight.

thanks for your help with mine...i wouldn't trade ellsbury either because it leaves a gap and ellsbury contributes to your team 5-6 times a week and garcia maybe 1-2 and hes not lights out...not worth ellsbury

Garcia is good, but you can do better for Ellsy. In fact, the way he's playing I would consider it a bargain to keep him for $9. At that price I would AT LEAST hold out for a while to see what the market looks like...it's not like $9 really breaks the bank.

Like other said, your OF is shallow, your pitching is deep. Trading an OF for a SP doesn't really solve that for you.

I would try moving Ichiro/martin or Ellsbury/Martin for a power OF. You can't afford to lose an OF without getting one back. You only need one of Ellsbury or Ichiro type OF not both.

i'd definately hold off on this trade. boston's offense is getting better which obviously means huge things for ellsbury and i have serious doubts about garcia's long term stats. its tempting but i'd pass on this deal.

I'm bumping this because I want to highlight the fact that I can pick up Beltran or Guerrero to replace Ellsbury, giving me more power, which I need. I am far above the league in SB, so losing Ellsbury is not that bad. Considering this, what do you think?

Your not getting good value for Ellsbury with Garcia. If power is a weakness, use Ellsbury to trade with a team weak in SB and Runs. Ellsbury has been turning in a nice season in a powerful lineup. Don't give him away for peanuts.

Thanks for the help in my post.
