Wait It Out or Make A Move!

Postby X-Factor611 » Mon May 23, 2011 5:14 pm

I'm currently in 8th place in my 12 team. It's a 5 x 4 scoring league (no WHIP).

I have been in last for the first 6 weeks of the season, but have been gaining points every week.

My roster is as follows....
C- Russell Martin
1B- Eric Hosmer
MI- Rickie Weeks
MI- Derek Jeter
3B- Evan Longoria
OF- Carlos Gonzalez
OF- Alex Gordon
OF- Nick Markakis
DH- Jed Lowrie
BN- Sam Fuld, Peter Bourjos
DL- Grady Sizemore, Travis Hafner, Derrek Lee

SP- David Price
SP- Justin Verlander
SP- Cole Hamels
RP- Chris Perez
RP- Ryan Madson
BN- Z. Britton, J. Masterson, I. Kennedy, J. Walden, F. Rodney, D. Aardsma, C. Richard

****Picked up Michael Brantley and Charlie Morton, and dropped David Aardsma and Clayton Richard***

So where do i need to improve? Should i stand pat and let my team produce?
Who should i look to deal, and who should i target?

any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering why you are rostering so many RP's........... Your bench is pretty weak, so I don't see you being able to package too much value out of that. Would have been good to sell high on Gordon a few weeks back. But your team isn't terrible, some slow starts with Markakis, Gonzalez, Jeter, and Longoria on the DL. It's a long season, but I'm thinking getting some SP would be a good start and upgrade the OF a bit.

I have so many RP's because i just made a deal 2 weeks ago for Chris Perez (traded Kendrys Morales for him before he was done for the year). I just havent dropped anyone yet. I'm going to drop Aardsma. Hesitant on dropping Rodney because i'm afraid Walden may lose the job to him.

I dont think i need to add any SP's because thats my strenght with 3 aces and solid starters in Kennedy, Britton, & Masterson.

Who are some buy low targets?

If Walden loses his job it's to Scott Downs not Rodney. Aardsma's not coming back this season. You have 2 roster spots to drop, grab a SP with some k's and a flexible bench bat to fill in on days off (you have the right idea with guys like Jed Lowrie). Post some players available on the wire and we can make some suggestions.

Wouldn't want Fuld either. He's losing at-bats and you already have Bourjos to fill in for SB off the bench. If you can find a better bat earlier from the RP drops, than Fuld should be easily expendable. Grab another SP.

Hold onto CarGO, Longoria and Price in any trades you make and you'll be fine; those 3 will keep you competitive into the summer months (they will be on a lot of winning rosters, many of which will acquire them now when they're not so hot). I'd look to add a SB guy like Ellsbury or Crawford as an upgrade to your OF but wouldn't kill myself trying to trade if you can't get good value. Most of your climb will come through the wire. Good luck and it's still quite early in the season.

Help with mine, please:

some players available on the waiver wire in my league are
Michael Brantley (OF)
Melky Cabrera (OF)
Jonathan Lucroy (C)
Torii Hunter (OF)
Carlos Gomez (OF)
Danny Espinosa (MI)
Wilson Ramos (C)
Mark Trumbo (1B)
Michael Cuddyer (1B)

pretty slim picking for Bats.

Pitchers available are
Charlie Morton
Josh Tomlin
Jake Arrieta
Kyle Loshe
Rick Porcello

not really much to choose from.

Lohse is a solid add. He has been very steady this season. He's a better guy to have than Richard especially. I could also see Melky as an add, he was touted years ago and is fulfilling his promise nicely this season. Over Bourjos I would take Melky.

picked up Michael Brantley, and Charlie Morton and dropped David Aardsma and Clayton Richard.

Still looking for any help on some moves to make.

I was offered Lincecum, Beltre, and Hanley Ramirez for Jeter, Longoria, and David Price.

i turned it down only because Hanley may go on the DL, and with my need for MI help, that wouldnt be good.

I'm looking at Picking up Brett Lawrie and Danny Espinosa. If i can get any or either of them, then should i consider offering the trade back to that owner? Hopefully they can keep me my team a float and keep climbing in the standings until Hanley gets back...

whats everyone think?
