Trade Ellsbury for Crawford? WHIR!

Postby rozzz5 » Sun May 22, 2011 1:16 pm

I have Ellsbury and he wants to trade me Crawford and he'll also throw in part of the Dodgers bullpen mess if i want, in the form of Kenley Jansen and Matt Guerrier.

Is this trade a no brainer one way or the other? Do you guys think it's woth it to trade Ellsbury who's playing like a second rounder, for Crawford who's playing like a twelth rounder. Who do you guys like better for the rest of the year.

Please help. Leave a link and i will help with yours.

Thanks.

It sounds absolutely crazy, but I have a hard time pulling the trigger on this. I expect Ellsbury to regress, just as I expect Crawford to play better, but there is a long, long, long way to go before they even come close to evening out. To me, the biggest warning sign with Crawford is his walk rate, which is made even worse since that is a counting category for you.

Is this a keeper league, or are you just playing for this year?

For now, I'd actually have to pass on this.

This is not a keeper League. Just a redraft.

I'm also not sure about the deal but I too don't know if I'm crazy or what to do about this. Every single updated ranking I've seen from mid may or so still has Crawford a lot higher than Ellsbury. But let me know what you guys think.

My head tells me that Crawford has to pick it back up and be better from here out, but my gut tells me not to trust my head on this one. Obviously Crawford has the talent to be better, but he stinks of being a headcase at this point.

What about your position in the league? Are you trying to climb back out of a hole? Sitting pretty at/near the top?

I'm actually in 3rd place right now so I'm doing ok, so I'm not necessarily looking to make a splash. Rather, i just want to try to improve my team as much as possible ,just like everyone else and i'm just trying to figure out if this would be an improvement or am i making my team worse by going after the "big" name.

Yeah, at the end of the day, I would probably close my eyes, say a prayer, and click accept. I don't think that Ellsbury can play better than he is right now, so if you're in a position where you can gamble on getting the upside of good crawford but won't be crippled if bad crawford is all you get for awile... do it.

That said, I don't envy you the position, and I 100% completely understand opting out of it.

It's really hard to say no to a deal where you are getting a first round pick for a 5th or 6th rounder, but I just don't see you benifiting from it. Crawford is the bust of the season, and will need to improve dramaticaly just to reach Ellsbury's level right now. Plus, most people are forgetting the numbers Ellsbury put up a couple of seasons ago when he was healthy; it looks like he may put similar ones this season.

I drafted Ellsbury hoping that he would have a healthy season and so far I am more than pleased. If I was offered Crawford for him I wouldn't bite. Ellsbury has firmly implanted himself in the # 1 spot, so you can expect him to pick up many, many more steals.

I am leaning towards keeping Ellsbury.
90% of my posts are from complaining about my team :)
