Hang onto Avila? WHIR

Postby sigriffey » Sat May 21, 2011 12:04 pm

I had a roster spot open up when I received Ike Davis in a trade. The available free agent was Alex Avila. Since Russell Martin seems to get a day or two off a week, and because we can play 3 utility at a time, I grabbed Avila. Should I hang into him? Other considerations were Jansen for some occasional saves, Trumbo (bad average and no walks), or a SP for next week.

Sit tight? Drop someone else for another SP?

Catchers are a dime a dozen IMO. Jansen my or may not get the occasional save and trumbo will give you some power with a not so great avg. Just depends what you want since you have several offensive options already on your bench.

Excluding Davis since he is still on the DL, which 3 players would you regularly put into utility on an everyday basis? Obviously match ups come into play, but is there a guy or two that I should pretty much always throw out there if the matchup is decent?

I would hold on to Avila, he is still a very solid catcher. I managed to turn him into Mariano rivera. lol. first I traded him for Alfonso Soriano, then I traded Soriano and Lilly for Rivera.

If I had a chance for Avila... I'd take it. I like him very much moving forward.
