who to drop....who to pick up (WHIR)

Postby misterf » Fri May 20, 2011 5:07 pm

It's a 10-team, standard 5x5 roto keeper league (10 keepers/yr).

As usual, I am becoming too loyal to the guys already on my team, and I am probably missing so opportunities on the free agent market. So here are the bottom few guys on my bench.....and the top few guys on the waiver wire. Please let me know which guys you think I should drop....and who I should pick up.

The dreggs of my team:

Mike Napoli (c)
Travis Hafner (ut) - just went on DL
John Danks (sp)
Vicente Padilla (rp) - DL
jonathan Broxton (rp) - DL
Koji Uhehara (rp) - I also have Gregg.....so Uehara is Greggs handcuff

Best options on waiver wire:

John Buck (c)
Miguel Olivo (c)
Jonathan Lucroy (c) - any of these 3 catchers better than Napoli long-term?
Justin Smoak (1b)
Andres Torres (of)
Angel Pagan (of)
Marlyn Byrd (of)
Austin Jackson (of)
Chris Coughlan (of)
Melky Cabrera (of)
Cameron Maybin (of)
Johnny Cueto (sp)
Joel Pinero (sp)
Derek Lowe (sp)
Jake Arrieta (sp)
Mitchell Boggs (rp)
Johnny Venters (rp)

We have a rather large bench (26-man roster)....but no DL slots. So all these guys are bench player/spot-starters for me (except for Napoli). My team is pretty solid. There are no huge holes (position or category) to fill. My biggest issue is saves....so when in doubt, I do need to lean towards guys that have a good chance of contributing saves. But saves is more of a tie-breaker thing....II don't want to over-reach for saves.

Thanks in advance!!!!! Of course, WHIR.

I'm somewhat new to FB, so telling you who to drop is hard for me, but I like Derek Lowe as a starter and I like Jonny Venters as a setup guy. Venters already has 3 wins, 1 save, 9K per 9IP and an ERA and WHIP less than 1. I also think Kimbrel's leash will be short. He has already blown 4 saves and Venters is breathing down his neck. In the lineup, Cabrera is the best rated right now!

Drop Vicente Padilla for Cueto. I know you need saves, but Cueto is a pretty solid pitcher to be on the wire.

Thanks on mine! Awesome. I dont think that you should make too many moves but PAdilla is no more. I was watching him hoping he was gonna turn it up but now he is on the DL. I recently have picked up Cueto and have been nothing but happy with his performance! HE is a great pitcher to have on a decent team. I say drop PAdilla for Cueto.
