Scherzer vs Liriano

Postby hot4tx » Fri May 20, 2011 9:39 am

From here to the rest of the season who would you rather have - Scherzer or Liriano - and why? This in a 5x5 HTH league with no IP limits.

Lastly do you consider this relatively close or in your opinion is there a huge difference at the moment?

I think I would go with Scherzer the rest of the way. He doesn't have to get things right like you would hope with Liriano. He misses more bats as well. Thanks for help with mine.

Scherzer. ;-D

We all know he's got filthy stuff. If he can improve his control and cut down on the walks, he could definitely be top 20 SP this season.

Liriano looked good his last outing but I'm not sold just yet.

I'd also go with Scherzer, he's just more stable. Sure Liriano has had flashes of brilliance, but those BB's are worrying.

Mighty Max, and it's not even close. Basically, even if Liriano rights the ship (big "if," despite his last start -- something ain't right with that boy), his ceiling for the rest of the year is basically Scherzer's baseline. Scherzer will give you more Ks and more wins without any doubt, and will almost definitely give you a better ERA and WHIP.

Like I said, not close.

I agree with CharlatanSin, it's Scherzer and it's not very close.

Scherzer was hyped coming into the season and he's delivering on that. People were wary of Liriano coming into the season and he's delivering on that.
Scherzer is a must-start. Liriano is, at best, a matchup guy, if not "stash and wait".

I would agree with the above post... Liriano is a question mark... whereas Scherzer is more of a sure thing, at least when compared to Liriano.

If Liriano has a good game next start, I'd go with Liriano 100%. Scherzer is sooo inconsistent, and a mid-range option when he's on. Liriano is an ace when he's on, and he has been showing signs of settling down. His sore shoulder is better, and he's pitching his game instead of the pitch-to-contact stuff the pitching staff was trying to enforce. If Liri has an iffy next start, I'm on the Scherzer bus, but if he shows signs of coming around next start, I'd go with Liriano all the way.
