Davies goes down last night, and Mazzaro takes the beating...
The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals will call up SP prospect Danny Duffy to pitch Wednesday against the Rangers.
Wilson or Kennedy on the way out?
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik told KJR Sports Radio that he expects 2B prospect Dustin Ackley to be recalled "sooner rather than later" and that he is "fairly close" to making his major league debut. Ackley was in contention to make the Mariners' opening day roster, but he has spent the season so far at Triple-A Tacoma, where he is hitting .247 with five home runs and 17 RBI. He was the second pick overall in the 2009 amateur draft.
Here is a breakdown of his repertoire (with the quotes coming courtesy of Baseball America prior to the season):
Fastball – “sitting at 90-92 mph before reaching the mid-90s later in games.” Changeup – “His best secondary pitch is a changeup that’s slightly above average at times, but his feel for it wavers.” Curveball – “His slow curveball has plenty of depth, but he’ll probably switch to a slider that will be a better fit for his three-quarters arm slot.” Control has never been an issue for him in the past, though he has only made 14 starts (75.2 innings) above Single-A. It will be interesting to see if more patient hitters help contribute to fewer strikeouts and more walks. That certainly will be something to watch, as Baseball America was not overly impressed with his secondary stuff. He needs to take significant strides there if he wants to thrive against Major League hitters. http://rotoprofessor.com/baseball/?p=10009
Good find. I added him as a spec add in a league simply because of the way he dominated AAA this year. Expecting good results right off the bat with the Rangers against him in 2 of his first 3 starts (assuming he sticks), might be a little much to ask though. If he sucks, I'll just deposit him back in the wire...I had an open spot anyway.
