Denard Span - where are the SB?

Postby SpecialFNK » Mon May 16, 2011 10:31 am

Denard Span.
in 2009 he had 23 SB with 10 CS. even last year in a down year he had 26 SB with 4 CS. he currently has 3 SB with 1 CS. not only does he not have many SB, but he's not even running! it's not like he isn't getting on base. he has .361 OBP on the season and .375 OBP in May.
anyone have any insight? why is he not even running? are the Twins for some reason not wanting him to run? if that's the case I'd like to trade him and try to sell him based on his SB in his career. but if he is going to start running and getting SB then I would have more confidence in hanging onto him.

I'm interested in this as well. At this point, he is essentially only contributing in BA. With few SB's and little run scoring potential given the inept Minnesota offense, he looks droppable in shallow leagues and he's on the borderline in deeper leagues.

Maybe the twins are getting blown out so often that when he gets on base the game is not close enough for a steal be meaningful?

There must be a stat called "sb attempts per opportunity", right? With an "opportunity" being on first base with second base being open, and the score being within a 3 run difference or something. Or along those lines. It would be pretty useful, especially in situations such as this.
