Where's the love for Dee Gordon?

Postby berrymyers » Sun May 15, 2011 9:53 pm

He's hitting .305 with 22 runs and 14 sb's in AAA...

I guess with all the 1B hype this year he's getting lost in the prospect shuffle...

I'm a fan!!!

Dee Gordon is one of the most divisive prospects in the minors.

You are correct that he's hitting .305. But he needs a .368 BAPIP to do it. Albuquerque is also one of the minors best hitting environments. And he's not showing any power and he doesn't project for any power. The SB potential is great but I don't think he has enough bat to be a starter (or at least a good one) in the majors. I think it's very likely that OPS's below .700 (possibly below .650) in the majors.

It's hard to get excited about a guy who can't hit the ball out of the infield. I can't remember the last time I saw anyone clawing through the shopping spree crowd to get their hands on Juan Pierre, Michael Bourn, or Willy Taveras.

Yeah, he'll have some fantasy value but it won't be huge. He's got basically zero power. A SS eligible Juan Pierre is definitely a valuable fantasy commodity, but I don't see why you'd be more excited about him than, say, Elvis Andrus. With LESS power, if that's possible.
