First timer here-Should I accept this trade for Utley?

Hey everyone,

This is my first time to this website and I am pretty much a rookie at fantasy baseball. I was just offered the following in a 16 team, 5X5 cat., head to head, re-draft league and would greatly appreciate your feedback:

I give: Utley

I receive: Jaime Garcia, Matt Joyce, and Carlos Pena

I personally think this is a good deal for a deep league. I am weak at OF and think Garcia is fantastic as an SP and Joyce is playing great. The only thing is that I have Izturis as my 2B, and know one else; and I've been stashing Jennings (will that affect Joyce's value in the 2nd half?).

Should I accept this?

Okay good idea. I'll create a signature and edit my first post, just a second. thanks for the suggestion.

Edit: wow, they sure don't give you very many characters for the signature. Oh well. Most people know the positions.

If I'm reading your roster right - and just a heads up, post it in one vertical line in your post, the way it appears on your team page on yahoo or whatever, reading it as one block of text is hard - then you shouldn't do this trade. Izturis is replacement level in a 12 team league, and if Utley comes back with decent form he should still be an above-average 2B. You don't need/want Pena, Joyce is on a hot streak, and Garcia is pretty good but your staff isn't terrible. This isn't a terrible move, but I'd rather hang on to Utley.

I wouldn't do it. In essence it's Utley for Garcia, and I hate to give up the best player in a trade unless I'm filling a gaping hole, and you have a decent staff already. Pena and Joyce are waiver wire fodder.

Wow, thanks so much everyone for your feedback. It looks like a "no" across the board. Thanks for helping me understand Utley's value more. What type of player(s) would Utley be worth than in a 16 team league then?

Anybody else have an opinion on the original question?

I don't like this deal for you at all. In a 16 team league you can't give up Utley for what you are receiving in return.

So who should I get in return. I thought because it was 16 team league that getting back two players who will statistically combined outperform Utley would be better. Plus I get Garcia too.

Just because two players will put up combined stats that eclipse a third player's stats doesn't mean it's worth trading for them. Don't forget, you're taking up two roster spots to get those stats. Utley + another roster spot of production is what you're really talking about here.
