An owner dropped a pitcher with past success that was rated highly entering the season having a bad first few months. In the previous post, that pitcher was younger, but with a shorter resume. This time, an owner dropped Chris Carpenter. A pitcher with a long resume of past success, but with peripherals trending downward in recent years.

This is a 12 team keeper points league. I have my keepers lined up for next year, and my team is geared to win this year. Does Chris Carpenter upgrade my staff this year? I will help in return.

That's really tough because you have a really solid staff but it's hard to let Carp sit on the wire. Who are your hitters? Could you drop one?

Due to the roster restrictions in place and my current team, I can only drop a starting pitcher to pickup Carpenter. Out of my starting pitchers, I'd have to say my weakest option is Wandy Rodriguez. A few weeks ago, I would have made this move in a heart beat, but seeing Carpenter struggle so much and noticing his walk rate increase while his strikeout rate has been decreasing over the past few years has me a little concerned. That said, I don't fully trust Wandy either. Neither would be a keeper, so I am only concerned with who will outperform who this year. Obviously Carpenter plays for a better team, but that may change as Wandy is a trade target.

i'd agree with RJ's comment about dropping a hitter potentially, but if you MUST drop a pitcher, i'd drop Wandy. Maybe you can package a couple of these starters for a top-tier bat in the near future as well

Thanks for the help. It is a must that a starting pitcher be dropped if I am going to get Carpenter.

I'd like the conversation going forward to focus on whether Carpenter will outperform anyone of my current starters this year. If not, I will stay pat. I have a good lineup as is, but I'm always looking to get better, especially when owners get frustrated about early returns on star players
