My name is Bea Arthur and I'm a Pedro Alvarez owner. Phew, feels good to finally admit that.
Anyway, I own Mr. Alvarez in a deep 20 team, H2H, 5x5 (OBP vs. AVG) keeper league (5 keepers).
I recently acquired Logan Morrison and have a couple of owners interested in his services. I now have 3 options:
1) I could get Lowrie straight up for him and play him at 3B and stash the slumping Alvarez. 2) I could probably get Alex Gordon for LoMo and Furcal once he is off the DL (I have Y. Escobar right now) 3) Keep LoMo and wait it out w/Alvarez. My OF right now is Heyward, Crisp, Crawford and Coghlan...but Crisp is always hurt and Heyward has a bum shoulder. The best 3B on the waiver wire are Chris Johnson and Gregg Dobbs, yikes. Could also pick up and stash Brett Lawrie for when he comes up in a few weeks.
Which option should I take? Keep in mind, it's OBP instead of AVG. WHIR for sure!

Hi Bea. It's nothing to be ashamed of; I...ahem...own him in another league myself. That's why I'd go with option 3. Call it blind optimism, but, I still think Alvarez will turn it around. Keep the faith. Thanks for the help on mine!

I may be biased because I don't own Pedro, never have, and never will. BUT I don't think he is coming out of the slump this year. He may produce in the future, but I personally think this year is shot.
option 1 isn't good. Lowrie isn't worth it. option 2 isn't good. Giving up LoMo and Furcal is too much for Gordon. option 3 isn't good. Don't want to wait out Pedro's slump.
the best of the 3 options is option 2 in my opinion. but look for other options if at all possible. sorry I couldn't help much.... but your options stink.
I would consider the first trade because Lowrie has huge potential in that lineup and could prove more valuable than Escobar down the line, but at the same time LoMo could wind up being better than Lowrie down the line, so it would be less about position at that point. And I agree, I think giving up LoMo and Furcal is too much for Gordon who looks like he's proving himself but has never done this before, so its shaky. Seeing your OF situation (with Crisp's injury risk and Heywards injury as you mentioned) I would probably hold onto LoMo for now and I'm sure you could always trade for Lowrie down the line if you see things start to change. Good luck, and thanks for your help on mine!!
With Heyward out, it sounds like it's time to make a move. I just dropped Alvarez in my 12-teamer. If you can get Jed Lowrie, I would without looking back. Alvarez seems to lack the work ethic to excel. As mentioned already, Pedro's upside isn't that appealing with all the strikeouts and inconsistent weeks. I like Lowrie in that potent Sox lineup.
12 Team H2H
C Napoli 1B Butler 2B Prado (SS, 3B, OF) SS Tulowitzki 3B Wright OF Ellsbury, Melky Cabrera, Willingham UTL Crawford SP Strasburg, Cueto, Fister, Vogelsong RP Medlen
B Cobb, H.Bailey, Holland, Cingrani B Hosmer, Marte
I like Alvarez to turn it around and at least be serviceable so I'd hold off. Not a believer in Gordon and the one month of solid play in his career.
You can always post these trade offers or ideas on tradebashers.com. You input the players and league details and the community of managers votes on which side of the trade they'd prefer to receive. So you know exactly how reasonable or lopsided a deal might be. It also helps when dealing with other managers so that instead of just saying, "your offer stinks," you can say "87% of managers think your offers stinks."
