In 5 x 5 head to head league with only 20 waiver moves throughout season. Also its a keeper league (allowed to keep 5 players, but it is dependent on original draft position, etc....so in other words, I cannot necessarily keep my best 5).
I have grown tired of waiting for Vernon Wells to break out and him now going on DL, its time to cut loose. My one DL spot is occupied by Utley.
Out of the below available hitters on the waiver, who would you grab to replace Wells?
Eric Hosmer, Bret Gardner, Carlos Lee, Jeff Francouer, Gaby Sanchez, Melky Cabrera, Coughlan, Dexter Fowler, Matt Joyce, or Ryan Roberts? Reason I but Eric Hosmer is keeper potential and would allow me to possibly trade Teixera for someone. Ryan Roberts has eligibility at 2b,3b, and OF and would be a good bench player.
C - VMart 1 - Teixera (Keeper) 2 - Brian Roberts 3 - Longoria (Keeper) SS - Tulo (Keeper) OF - Ellsbury OF - Rasmus OF - Bay Util - Polanco BN - Wells DL - Utley (Keeper)
SP - CC (Keeper) SP - Bucholz SP - Marcum SP - Daniel Hudson SP - James Shields RP - Axford RP - Kimbel P - Venters (we count holds in this league) P - Madson (we count holds in this league) BN (SP) - Colby Lewis BN (SP) - Edwin Jackson
Carlos Lee probably has the best track record of the players you listed, but he's getting old. Given that this league is a keeper and you'd be getting the ultimate steal if you could get someone worth holding onto off the waiver wire, it probably actually makes the most sense to make a younger, more speculative pick.
So I vote Hosmer. If the guy develops into a stud, you've got a keeper without even using a high draft pick.
