Soriano possible closer?????

Postby BstonBruin » Mon Mar 29, 2004 1:02 pm

Is there any chance that Rafael Soriano could move up to the closers role?

If Guardado falters or gets hurt...possibly. I don't see it happening, though. Everyday Eddy is overrated, but certainly not a closer I see in any danger of losing his job.

Even if every day Eddie does go down I think Shigetoshi Hasegawa would get the first look since he did really well in that position last year. they'll split time if anything.

I think he's got a better shot at getting into the rotation than he does of closing. Guardado is solid in the closer's role.

He complained a few months ago when the Mariners publicized the idea of moving him into the rotation. He sees himself as a future closer. But it'll take an injury to Eddie before he closes and Eddie knows how to produce through pain.
