In 2nd, Looking for 1st! WHIR

Hey guys,

I am currently in 2nd place, have been all season while the guy in 1st has been in 1st all season as well. We both have been flirting with the 90s and 80s, while the teams behind us have never even touched the 80s, so it is a pretty comfortable lead right now. I want to keep it up, I am only a point behind first place, 93.5 - 94.5 so I want to pass him now when I can and then never look back. He excels in saves and stolen bases.

I have been in talks with another guy for a couple weeks now to acquire Walden to add some saves. I do not however want to deplete my pitching staff which is best in Wins and ERA and 2nd best in WHIP in my league. I picked up Dempster and Zambrano after someone gave them a short leash (figured I would pick them up and drop Raul Ibanez and Ivan Nova, get two aces that hopefully turn it around for literally nothing). So the trade has always come back to Cahill & Jones for Walden and Rollins. He also wants Avila who is a free agent, and since free agent pick ups cost in my league, he wants me to pick Avila up and add him to the trade. So, Cahill, Avila, Jones for Walden, Rollins. I don't want to give up Cahill who has helped me ERA stay low in a pitchers ball park, but I do want the saves from Walden. I can also use Rollins as trade bait since I have Reyes. What do you guys think? WHIR

I'd trade Rollins and A.J. Burnett for Walden and another good SP... you can never have enough, and I like your coverage with Reyes at SS.

If you don't have Rollins then how can you use him as bait? I think I'm confused.

In any matter it looks like you will have to give up a starter for saves and I think your roster can handle that nicely.

I can use Rollins as bait if I made the trade since I already have Reyes...

That seems like little value though. In my expereince it's hard to trade from known observable wealth.

I am not sure what you are trying to say. How would it be little wealth? There are people in my league and most other leagues who have to start Miguel Tejada or Escobar, etc as their shortstop. If I were to offer Rollins to any of those people I would be able to get great value for him. Right?

I mean if guys can see you don't need Rollins, then you wont be able to get much for him even if they need him.

That is my experience though, hopefully your league wont be like that.

Hey even if I can't get a lot from him I can certainly use him as a Utility player on my team. I wouldn't complain ahah. I see what you are saying though, I doubt those players would be smart enough to think of that though honestly since I am in 2nd and they are about 30-40 points behind me.

I like Cahill alot and think he is very under-rated. He is an ace this year. I would want more for him. Walden is nice but not worth Cahill. Rollins is ok. I would try to upgrade your 3B along with RP. I'd shop him around more.
