Alex Avila over Geovany Soto? WHIR!!

Postby BiGAnT » Sat May 07, 2011 5:52 pm

I know its still early, but Alex Avila is outproducing Soto by a mile, does anyone think he can keep it up (more than Soto anyway)? And would it be worth it to drop Soto for him (I don't want to carry 2 catchers)? I feel like it would be, because Avila is in a better lineup and he doesn't have a pitcher hitting behind him (plus V-Mart will be DHing so he'll get basically all the starts) They both seem to bat 8th pretty consistently, yet Avila has 6 HR and 23 RBIs to Soto's 3 HR and 13 RBIs!! Or am I still being too impatient?? I don't know what to do. Help is much appreciated, and all links posted will be answered, thank you!!

Tough. I agree that you don't want to be carrying two catchers, and Avila has been on fire. I'll tell you what I did. I picked up Avila and put Posada on my bench, I'm now trying to figure out if I should drop Posada all together and roll with Avila. I'm leaning towards yes, because Avila's a really strong looking guy who's just starting to put it all together. I think Soto is the safe move, and Avila is the gamble. If the gamble works out you've made a nice upgrade, if it doesn't, I don't think you've lost that much in the catcher position. He just caught a no-hitter today too, so I think there's a lot of confidence surrounding him right now.

Thanks for your help on mine. FYI, I decided to drop Posada for Hughes, and put Hughes on DL in place of Cueto.
