Crazy question - Are saves worth it? WHIR

I've got two closers. Heath Bell and Jordan Walden. And I lose the saves category every week. My SP is stacked. My hitting will be good long term, but injuries are really adding up. Is it crazy to consider dropping closers entirely and getting a couple more bats?

I'm in a 10 team H2H league. Sitting in first place right now.

If you could post who's available it would be better to see...BUT I'm gonna say don't do it regardless. Even though it may feel like its not worth it to have them, it may come to haunt you later on. However if you decide to get rid of them , don't just drop them, try to trade, seeing as they're both pretty good closer options. But again, the fact that they're both good closers, I would say hang on to them. You never know what could happen and I definitely think that saves are worth it! They'll help you down the line in H2H more than you think! Hope this helps!

I would keep them, but I have never played in a H2H league. I think closers are pretty important throughout the season and it can be really helpful to have those saves down the line. That's my opinion though.

Take this for what it's worth as I play H2H baseball but I am a Roto fanatic in a hockey league going on six years.

"Punting" a category like saves makes it very difficult to win. I would look to at least stay competitive in saves. It doesn't have to win you your weeks, but it causes your team to need to be more dominant which is difficult week in and week out.

Be patient. If you need to clear some roster space package a sell-high with a decent player for an upgrade.

I wouldn't just make saves a weakness in your team. That's like giving everyone a foot lead in every race.

Package an SP with an outfielder and try to trade for a closer. Go for ones that usually get 30-35+ saves a season. Brian Wilson and Marmol are good candidates. See if any team has an extra closer and a lacking SP department and trade with them.

This is called punting saves. I've seen it backfire many times, since you basically forfeit one category every week. Even with a couple closers, they'll have a great weak and can take out teams with 4+ closers. In a h2h league, you can make the playoffs without closers, but once you get there you are going to start each round down-one. That said, punting saves can work, but usually only if you start the season with this mentality, since you can get more out of the draft. I think it is a bad move to decide to punt saves after the season starts if it means you simply drop your closers for other guys off the wire. This decreases value from your team.
