Start Daisuke, Baker, or neither?

Postby 49ersavior » Fri Apr 29, 2011 4:17 am

Daisuke vs. Seattle and Vargas today or Baker vs. Kc. Both have had a good last 2 starts, but I'm leaning towards Daisuke as he looked exceptional vs. the Angels last week. Then again Seattle is hot and is coming off a sweep in Detroit, and KC just got swept by Cleveland making Baker also look good. Thoughts?

H2H Espn standard league, 10 pts per win, 1 pt per k, -1 per hit/bb, 1pt per .1 IP, -2 per ER

I thought about picking Dice K up as well but t just scares me too much. If you are desperate for a win I would say maybe do it but looking at his history against the mariners they have a .308 BAA and an ops of .903 in 63 AB's. In this sample size justin smoak only accounts for an 0-3 and looks like he could be a factor in today's game. Another thing I would look at is how much you need K's right now/ K/9, K/BB. Dice k did strike out 9 last time out but is the first time this season he has struck out more than 3 and is still issuing quite a few free passes. Scott baker however looks far better on paper, in 101ABs against him the current royals have been limited to a .218 BAA, and .716 Ops he also has a 3:1 K:BB against them in this time. He has at least 5 k's in his last 3 starts and has only walked 2 at most in that time. I am not going to say whether to start either of them or not because i don't know what you need or how your league is scored but of the 2 i like Baker better but won't be picking anyone up for a spot start today......

I would like to note though if Dice-k does have a good outing today I am very tempted in using him from here forward just now ready quite yet.........

The league is in all together scoring H2H. There's no starts per week limit, and I'm down by a good 30 pts with 2 days to go, and I have 3 more starts coming up whereas he has 4. So I'm just trying to even it up with a ww start or 2 and make up some of the ground. I might however look at Saturdays probables on the ww b/c it looks like there are more solid options.
