Daniel Murphy - Mets starting 2B

Postby gbill2004 » Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:08 pm

It appears that Murphy is the Mets starting 2b now. He also has 1B, 2B and OF eligibility in Yahoo, making him a nice value pick, for his flexibility.

Thoughts/projections on him for the rest of the season?

I'd like to see more 2008 and less 2009.

in full-time at bats, i see him going .280, 12 HRs, 5 SBs tops with about 60 runs and RBIs (65 runs and 55 RBIs if he stays in the 2 hole) (similar to his 2009 season, but with a bit higher average). Not much for value unless you are in the deepest of leagues.

I'll take the .280 - 12 - 60 - 60 - 5 from a 2B in deeper leagues. Murphy has always hit for decent average and his K/BB rate has always been pretty good as well. I'd consider him if the FA 2B pool was thin and my starter went on the DL.

I picked him up in my 20 man dynasty league. My starter is Polanco, but with Longoria in the DL, I had to shift him to 3B and pick up Chris Getz. Murphy could be serviceable if you can afford to platoon him and start him only against RHP.

Nice pickup on Getz. He's a great cheap speed option at 2B and I would definitely platoon him with Murphy if you're up for it.

He had an .188 ISO in 350-odd at bats in AA.
I think he has another gear to go power-wise.
