Martin, Bay, Putz...a good deal? WHIR!!

Postby canadastar » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:50 am

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well, and that baseball season is embracing you in its full glory :-) I have a trade question for you...here is my team, very short on closers, so I am shopping for one. One owner has proposed my Russell Martin and Jason Bay for his JJ Putz...(11 team mixed Roto league, 1 catcher plays)...any help appreciated!! WHIR!

My team...
C Russell Martin
C Carlos Santana
1B Aubrey Huff
2B Ian Kinsler
3B Alex Rodriguez
SS Starlin Castro
CI Chipper Jones
MI Jed Lowrie/Elvis Andrus
OF Carl Crawford
OF Carlos Quentin
OF Jay Bruce
OF Jason Bay
OF Jonny Gomes
Util Travis Hafner
BN Nick Swisher

SP's CC Sabathia, Chris Carpenter, Liriano, Pineda, Jhoulys Chacin, Kyle McClellan, Derek Lowe
RP's Chris Perez, Sergio Santos, Ryan Madson (just dropped Koji Uehara for him)

In a league without available closers, Putz seems pretty consistent, but is he worth THAT price?

His team: VMart, JP Arencibia, Ike Davis, Zobrist, Youkilis, Hanley, Alex Gordon, Jose Reyes, Berkman, Ichiro, Snider, Stanton, Ordonez, Ortiz, Pagan....Pitchers are Cain, Hanson, Colby Lewis, Oswalt, Marcum, Edwin Jackson, Ian Kennedy, Bedard..RP's Putz, Farnsworth, League, Axford

Closers come and closers go.

R. Martin is in line to be comeback player of the year. Dont do this.

Damn! Two position players for a relief guy?

No way, Jose. Stand pat.

Is there anybody else on your waiver wire that you can grab?

Thanks for the help guys, the trade offer didn't really sit well with me to begin with. Should I just keep rolling Martin out there until Carlos Santana picks up? Guys on the wire are like:

J.P. Howell, Joel Peralta, Melancon, Wilton Lopez, Danny Hernandez, Matt Thornton (do we think he'll be back?), Darren O'Day, Evan Meek, Sergio Romo, Joaquin Benoit, Kenley Jansen, Arthur Rhodes, Sean Burnett, Saito, Aroldis Chapman, Joba...

anyone you would take a flier on over the guys on my team? I kind of want to shop Swisher and one of my catchers...thoughts?

I would grab Romo or Benoit in that case.

Shop Martin and Swish for a power closer or just ride them out.

Don't pull the trigger....especially in a 2 catcher leauge, this deal isn't close...Pick up Thornton (he may get another crack, you never know with ozzie), and continue to play the close game. I was quick this season and managed to scoop up farnsworth, boggs and walden, which allowed me to trade other RP for some hitting. Be patient and the RP will come. Quality catchers, however, will not.
