btw i was listening to XM radio a few weeks back and I was shocked to hear
Mark Melancon's pronunciation
I always thought it was Mel-an-Kon
but the Astros annoucers said Mel-an-sen
is there a chance that some announcers are just idiots?
Luebke seems like a german name, and germans would pronnunce it "Lübke" [ˈlyːbkɛ].
His name is very similar to a german city Lübek [ˈlyːbɛk], Luebek in english.
You can listen to the city's pronunciation here:

edit: I just checked and he was born in Maria Stein, Ohio.
Maria Stein is most definitely a german name.
