I need to make a roster move to activate Brandon Morrow from the DL and I figured instead of dropping one of my pitchers i would try to convert Johnson and the struggling Axford for a legitimate top 5 pitcher. One of the guys in my league offered me Tim Lincecum for Johnson and Axford and i wanted to know which side you thought won (Extra Categories include K/9, Losses, Complete Games, Shutouts):
I give: SP Josh Johnson RP John Axford
I Get: SP Tim Lincecum
My pre-trade staff looks like this:
SP Josh Johnson SP Trevor Cahill SP Gio Gonzalez SP Alexi Ogando SP Michael Pineda SP Max Scherzer SP Johnathan Sanchez RP John Axford RP Carlos Marmol
I stay put. If anything you should be adding a closer, not trading one away. Axford is struggling but I believe he gets it turned around soon. Josh Johnson IMO is as good as Lincecum, there's just more concern of injury.
Hal·la·day, n. 1. every fifth day in Philadelphia. 2. a day of rest for the bullpen. 3. innings eater. 4. doc. 5. ace.
Johnson is easily top 5 right now. Lincecum has an expensive name (ie nickname, world series, beautiful hair, etc), So he comes with an expensive price tag. Johnson is easily just as good as Lincecum. But comes at a cheaper price because no one knows who he is. lol, quite funny actually. You would be losing out on this deal. (or I guess I should say, you arent gaining anything)
Thanks for all the replies guys Boggs and Andrew Bailey are currently on the FAs. My plan was to trade Johnson and Axford For Lincecum, Activate Morrow, then pick up Bailey and drop Alex Gordon or Jed Lowerie to activate Bailey once he came off the DL. My main goal was to be able to activate Morrow while replacing Axford with Bailey. What do you guys suggest? (Notable FA RPs include Bailey, Boggs Capps, Rauch, Farnsworth, Aardsma)
My team currently sits like this: C Kurt Suzuki 1B Adam Lind 2B Gordon Beckham 3B Jose Bautista SS Hanley Ramirez 2B/SS Jed Lowrie 1B/3B Adam LaRoche OF Drew Stubbs OF Martin Prado OF Carl Crawford UTIL Andrew McCutchen UTIL Alex Gordon Bench Alex Rios
SP Josh Johnson SP Max Scherzer SP Gio Gonzalez SP Jonathan Sanchez RP Carlos Marmol RP John Axford Bench Trevor Cahill Bench Michael Pineda Bench Alexi Ogando DL Brandon Morrow
I would do it only because I know the Giants are trying to improve their offense. I personally own Lincecum in a league and although Josh Johnson is good, the Florida summers can get brutal for pitching.
