Has anyone actually watched his starts? I picked him up on 2 teams to ride out the hot streak, 4 quality starts to begin the year. The numbers on fangraphs don't look that interesting, no extremely high GB rate, low velocity, .180 BABIP, and xFIP way higher than his ERA but in the deeper leagues, you keep picking up these guys and hope they beat the odds and maintain fantasy value post-correction.

Any chance he can be a useful back end fantasy starter or just this year's Doug Fister?

I am very intrigued. Have Webb on my roster and looking for that diamond in the rough I seem to snare every year. Think I found in in Harrison but who knows? Are the Indians legit this year? Is Tomlin going to hold up? Who knows? Gotta roll those dice sometimes? Depending on your bench and league scoring he could be a great get. I wish I had the roster space to take the chance...

No it isn't.
J.Garcia had a quite presentable 7.27 K/9 and is/was an extreme groundballer (55% in 2010)

Tomlin has a quite crappy K/9 of 5, and his good start is totally fuelled by unsustainable BABIP (.182) and LOB% (86.5%)

His career minor league numbers are pretty damn good. He's a great story out of Cleveland, as he has always been that guy who wasn't looked at to succeed but just kept doing it at every level. He has continued that success at the major league level.

He has a career minor league record of 51-24, 3.20 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 7.9 K/9, 1.9 BB/9, 7.9 H/9.

The only thing that doesn't jump off the page is his K rate, but it isn't like he K's nobody. His minor league numbers are better than Garcia's across the board other than K/9 (7.9 to 8.3).

I think it would be foolish to expect him to continue at the rate he has so far this season, but he should pick up Wins, maintain a good ERA, and a solid WHIP.

Definitely a good pick up as a WW guy. I wouldn't start him every time out against elite offenses, but other than that I think he'll be very solid this season.
