Was Offered McGehee and Burnett for my Lowrie/Ogando (WHIR)

Postby sigriffey » Fri Apr 22, 2011 1:34 am

This guy wants Lowrie for sure ... I have some SS depth and could use the HR/RBI help. I'd probably drop AJ at some point if I did this...

Take it or Pass?

I give: Jed Lowrie and Alexi Ogando
I get: Casey McGehee and AJ Burnett

I like this trade.

Lowrie's ceiling is going to be McGehee this year and you don't need Ogando.

Ogando has the ceiling to be a 200k 3.00 era kinda guy... course I don't think he'll come close to that THIS year. He's pitching with a blister right now and I think Wash has said he's going to move him back to the pen once some of his SP's heal up.

Help please

Bump

Anyone else?
What do you project McGehee to do this year? Is it really a HR/RBI upgrade or is it pretty negligible? Right now I like the ability to play Lowrie instead of Beckham at 2B, but is this gonna make it worth it due to the HR/RBI boost?

Hmmm, Griffey, interesting deal.

On one hand, you're making use of you SP depth and dealing for a RP. This is a great idea, as it will allow you to pad your K numbers (and Holds, if your league counts them), while boosting your ERA and WHIP ratios.

That aside, I agree with the other poster. While Lowrie is more valuable than McGehee because of positional depth, they will probably end up with similar numbers- .285-.295 with 20 or so homers. Your problem isn't in the infield. Instead, what you need is a power bat in the outfield. See if you can package Tabata (take advantage of an unsustainable start) with Ogando for Burnett and that OF....if not this team, try another. Burnett will have to keep fighting off Storen, so that's a potential issue, but he'll provide value as a setup guy as well.

Go get some THUMP!

Keep me posted, and good luck! ;-D

I was typing in 'accept trade' without looking at your team or reading the post.

Changed my mind after reading.

Dont accept because you already have a great 3B and your replacement 2B isnt great

BUT... you could counter Ogendo/Burnett. That Id do.

I wouldve accepted the original trade if you had a better backup 2B and a bad 3B though.
I love mock drafts.

Just a heads up ... It's AJ Burnett he wants to dump on me. Not sean Burnett.

If it helps, some of his bats include: votto, ethier, McCutchen, Stanton, Dunn, prince, mcgehee....

Hr really wants Lowrie ,,, any guy I can package with Lowrie for one of those bats to give me the thumb I need?

How would you feel about just Ogando for Stanton? If not, Ogando + Tabata for Dunn? If he's stuck on Lowrie, make it a bigger deal and try something along the lines of Ogando, Tabata, and Lowrie for Dunn and Standon. I hate doing big deals, but at least you'd be adding significant fire power. I suppose Beckham becomes your 2B. Definitely a downgrade from Lowrie, so I'd try to do the other non-Lowrie deals instead.

Good luck!

Since Stanton had a slow start, try Lowrie/Ogando for him.
I like Ogando, but do the McGehee deal if nothing else develops.
IMO, you should be moving Crawford or Ellsbury. With Tabata, you got too many SB guys.
I disagree about Tabata falling off. (Sorry King)
Yes the 3hrs are a surprise, but the 8 sb aren't.
Or offer Crawford/Lowrie for Prince.
Btw, i don't see Lowrie matching McGehee numbers.

I said Tabata for the same reasons as the above poster- you have a ton of SB talent. But my fear, and the reason I see him regressing, is his .333 BABIP, which is way higher than his actual batting average of .286. Now, speed guys tend to be able to do this because they can beat out ground balls, so his batting average regression may not be too pronounced, I agree. But the most homers he ever hit in a full minor league season was 8. His Major League high is 4...do you really see him as a true power threat suddenly? Also, Crawford is currently at his lowest trade value, whereas Tabata certainly is at his highest (remember, we're talking relative commercial value here, as in drawing power).

Just my two cents, but I understand why Tabata is valued.

Good luck whichever way you choose to run ;-D

No i don't expect much power. I said his SB are for real.
You can't use 18 games of babip. Too small a sample.
He did have a .339 babip in 102 games last year, so .280-.290 is there.
I agree Crawford is a buy low, and Tabata a bit of a high sell.
