I'm in a 12-team mixed keeper league, with the pitching categories of: QS, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, and K/BB. I was offered the following trade:
I get: Craig Kimbrel and Travis Wood I give: Gio Gonzalez
I desperately need saves, and he's big on Gio. Should I do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Post your questions, and I'll respond with any help I can offer.
It depends, what other starting pitchers do you own? Also, does the guy have anyone better than Wood to offer? Even though he has had some good outings, he's had some pretty crappy ones too.
My other SP's are: Lester, Price, Danks, Bumgarner, Pineda, Tim Hudson, Dickey, and Duensing.
I tried getting Sanchez or Edwin Jackson out of him. Maybe I will keep holding out for one of those two. I'm with you....not really high on Wood. Thanks for the advice!
Wood will be better than you think. It looks like you have a pretty solid staff, and you need saves...
Again, it's just my opinion.

I'd value Gio a bit above Kimbrel. But, it's all about needs, not value. In which case, you should take the trade. Wood is a nice sleeper. You could really come out good with this.

I agree with this statement. I would do the trade because it fills your needs.
I don't like this deal. Gio is the real deal and should have a very solid year. I think you can get something better in return or find a decent closer on the WW. We have barely gotten through two weeks of baseball and already there have been a lot of closer changes...just off hand: Twins, Nationals, Angels, A's and White Sox. The Cardinals are sure to follow along with the Blue Jays and Mariners getting injured players back. Give it another few weeks and then revisit a trade and see what you can get for Gio then.
