Hughes dropped... 1st waiver...? WHIR 100%

Phil Hughes just dropped... is he worth my #1 waiver claim? I just traded away Ubaldo to acquire Pujols so my pitching could use the upgrade that I believe Hughes can provide once he comes back. W/a lot of pitching needy teams in my league I seriously doubt he makes it thru the waiver run. What does anyone think? Leave a link and I got u right back.

I think its a gamble. I don't think Hughes is going to make it all the way back to the way he was in 09. In 2010 he pitched 180 innings with just over a 4 ERA. Right now each of his 3 starts have been equally bad with no noticable improvement.

I agree you could use some additional pitching but I'm not sure Hughes is going to be any better than what you've got. Don't waste your #1 waiver on him. If he makes it off waivers and you still want him then personal opinion but I think you could pick up some young guy who can put up numbers that he made last year at the very least.

Hughes is a disaster right now and he's kind of mediocre if he's pitching well. So I would pass.

I wouldn't waiver...if he's an FA, maybe you hold for a bit, but not waiver.

I just dropped him for Jurjens, but I have a very shallow bench. I am not optimistic with Hughes.

I have him on my team and am thinking of dropping him. I'm not too optimistic about his return. I would not use a #1 waiver on him.

Thanks all. I will pick him up tomorrow as a FA if he's still available. I also picked up B Anderson as a FA hoping he doesn't need TJ. My DL is emptying anyway (Zimmerman tomorrow and Beachy hopefully in the next few weeks).

Personally I like Hughes' stuff, but as an extreme flyball pitcher in that bandbox they call Yankee stadium he can be pretty dangerous. As a reliever he was gold because there were less opportunities for they flyballs to carry out, but as a starter I don't think he can get an ERA under 4.5
