Having no catcher

Postby kickureface » Sat Apr 16, 2011 11:48 pm

anyone try this? I imagine in shallow leagues its not very effective, but in deep leagues it probably will help (wont need to deal with low counting cats and bad avg and free spot for hitting depth / SP)

not quite sure how not starting a catcher will free up depth as only a catcher can start in your catcher spot...you won't be gaining an extra bench spot with this strategy. And yes, most have a bad average but should also contribute at a minimum 10 HR and 100 R+RBI...that's a lot to make up in your other positions.

You just miss out on too much production imo. If you have a good catcher that's so much added statistics to your team. Even if you have a hunk of meat that scores 50 R and 50 RBI. That's huge to make up from 0.

batting average fluctuates weekly anyway. They can provide you with a nice 300 avg for the week even if their season avg is 250

As has been stated previously, you should be able to find someone who can man that spot well enough that you should put someone back there. However, I could see in a roto league getting some advantage out of using no catcher for maybe September, depending on if you need R/RBI and what the "average" situation looks like. But in "normal" times, start the guy back there.... even if you don't have good catchers, by just rotating in guys who have some semblance of a bat and playing time, you should be able to get something like .250/8/40/40, which is probably worth a 5-10 point bump in your roto standings, depending on how your offense related to the rest of the league. Also since the avg is most likely coming over a smaller number of ABs, it doesn't hurt your team as much as having say, Carlos Pena, killing your average with 600 ab

still nonsense. what you're trying to do is miss out on possible production on R/HR/RBI just to have a slight higher BA.

Already refuted, only C can play in the C spot, so it's not like having the one guy at catcher is taking away from you having people at other positions.
