Need to drop a SP - WHIR - UPDATED

Postby adamb103 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 5:15 pm

I'ts a 5x5 roto league and I'm already projected +35 IP over the limit. My C is Napoli, so I'm also quickly falling way behind on games at that position. Plan is to drop an SP for a FA C.
My SPs on the fringe: Shields, Colby Lewis, Edwin Jackson
Available Cs: Hundley, Avila, Hanigan
Other available hitters: Boesch, Freese, Freddie Freeman

UPDATED: It's 12 teams and my other SPs are Hamels, Gallardo, Cahill, Lilly, Nolasco, Shields, Lewis, Edwin Jackson (who I meant to put up instead of Nolasco)
Available SPs are just WW fodder: Masterson, Tomlin, Blackburn, Wood, Livan

So I guess the real question is whether I should hold on to Jackson for a 2nd C or a flyer on Freese/Freeman

Lineup:
C Napoli
1B A Gonz
2B K Johnson
3B Chipper (Longoria out)
SS S Drew
OF Holliday, Gardner, Victorino, Ben Francisco,
UT Adam Jones
BN Seth Smith, Longo

Thanks, and WHIR

If you had to drop someone, I would drop Shields, Lewis, Nolasco in that order

To pick up someone, I would go Avila(since you really need the C), Freese, Hundley, Boesch, Freeman, Hanigan

in that order.

I don't think you need to drop a pitcher for a catcher, all of those catchers are pretty much trash and Napoli will get his AB's. I actually think having Napoli as your catcher is a plus since a guy like Avila, Hanigan or Hundley would kill your batting average (Hundley is not this good). Napoli will put up much better numbers and those SPs are too good to consider dropping for a trash catcher, at least thats my Image

Hundley is hitting .406 right now. I know it's only 32 ABs, but .406

If you really feel like your pitching is strong enough to justify dropping Shields for Nick Hundley, a (typically) mediocre hitting catcher on a hot streak than by all means do it. Shields is definitely replaceable.

how many teams? no way to know how droppable those pitchers are without knowing how deep the SP pool is... in my opinion, all 3 of those pitchers are VERY servicable in anything 11 team or higher with 7-8 P slots and 4 bench slots. all those pitchers should be off waivers FOR SURE.

If i were you, i wouldn't drop anyone of them for a backup C. Napoli will still get 350-400 AB this year. not many catchers are going to get above 450 AB anyway, except for the freaks like posey, so you're not missing that much production. he will still hit 25 Homers which is more than just about every other catcher.

in short, you're dropping a productive SP for 150 extra AB from a mediocre catcher???

nah, don't do it...

help with mine? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=427377

I agree with the above posters... it's not worth it to drop your SP for a mediocre C just to fill up the projection and games played.

If anything... just spot start your pitchers... you see shields going up against halladay... sit him for that one... you have lewis pitching in cincy... sit him for that one too...

just pick your battles and you'll do fine.
