Raburn for Gregg

Postby ramble2 » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:46 pm

5x5 12-team keeper roto league. I need one more closer (getting a third would pay off with several overall points in the standings, and be the missing piece for a run at the league title--assuming my SP comes through). Trying to get one off of ww is brutal (we're all vultures in my league, with every backup handcuffed already).

With Roberts & Raburn I'm thinking I can turn Raburn into a closer. Both he and Gregg still have some questions marks right now (will Raburn get the ABs? how will he perform over a season? will Gregg hold the closer job?), and it seems like a fair trade.

Roster below. See any other players I should try to move before Raburn for a closer? Is Gregg reliable enough to make this deal?

of-CarGo, Bruce, Victorino
bench-Derek Lee, Venable, Chipper, Coco Crisp

sp-Lincecum, Zimmerman, Marcum, Britton, Hellickson, Pineda, Shields
rp-Valverde, Contreras, Lidge (DL), Boggs

A closer is a closer. Gregg was reliable enough last year to hold onto the gig for most of the year. Raburn is decent to count as a second baseman but I don't think you're going to get a top notch closer for him anyway. If the other owner goes for it, I'd do it without looking back. Roberts seems to be healthy and is off to an ok start thus far.

I like the Gregg side hands down. Gregg should be owned in all 12-team leagues, while Rayburn is very expendable. In fact, I'd probably drop Rayburn anyway and get someone from waivers ... there has to be better options out there.

Rayburn isn't even playing every day. And I think Gregg got a bad rap. I watched him last year for my Jays and it wasn't pretty but he generally got the job done....

Agreed.... if Roberts goes down with injuries I'd rather try to replace a 2B on the wire than try to find a closer if your league is as vulture-ish as it sounds. Sometimes you really do have to pay for saves.
