Matt Holliday for Ted Lilly?

Postby StckFigure » Tue Apr 12, 2011 2:51 pm

I'm in an NL-only league and in need of some offensive stats, especially HRs and runs. I've got a reasonably solid pitching staff (Josh Johnson and Chris Carpenter, and I could replace Lilly with Kyle Lohse) and the person who has Holliday has him up on a trade block (although from before he came back this weekend). Is this a fair offer?
Thanks!

League details:
Roto league with scoring categories of W, SV, K, WHIP, ERA and AVG, Runs, HR, SB, RBI.

My roster:
Active players - B McCann, A Huff, M Prado, D Freese, R Theriot, Chipper Jones, Freddy Sanchez, J Gomes, A Pagan, R Ludwick, S Schumaker, W Ramos
Active pitchers - Lilly, Johnson, Carpenter, Lohse, J Axford, J Venters, J Chacin, Travis Wood

Bench - P Moylan, I Rodriguez, M Kotsay
Corey Hart on the DL

No...in fact, it's really a bad trade offer. Lilly, while solid, has no where near the upside of a top tier starting pitcher, and Matt Holliday is a top 6 or 7 outfielder when healthy. I imagine you're going to have to give more than that.

Josh Johnson for Holliday would be a fair offer....Im in a NL league and Holiday was the 10th player drafted....Lily was the 70th.

There's no such thing as a fair trade, so never worry about that. Offer Lilly and expect him to reject it. But who knows, he might accept. I've seen worse. Ask him to counter what he wants for Holiday, considering he's on the block.

I'd definitely expect him to ask for multiple players, such as Johnson or Carpenter plus a closer... that's what I'd do if I was to give up Holliday.

Based on the feedback here, I ended up offering Lilly and Travis Wood. We'll see what comes back! Thanks!
