Cano for Pedroia and Ellsbury

Postby royalty » Tue Apr 12, 2011 9:58 am

I'd be giving up Cano. I really am hesitant to give up Cano bc I think he'll no doubt be best 2nd baseman this year and in the years to come. Any thoughts?

Depends on if you want to maintain a stout group of keepers...Braun/Longoria/Cano or go after a slight upgrade to your team now.

It's not just Cano for Pedroia/Ellsbury it will be Cano+"whoever you drop" for Pedroia/Ellsbury .... so maybe Cano/Span for Pedroia/Ellsbury. The Pedroia/Ellsbury side is very slightly better, IMO, but you are downgrading your keeper option going forward...depends on what you want to do in that situation. If you think you might be able to win this year then go for it otherwise keep what you have.

Make the trade. Even though both Pedroia and Ellsbury have been injury prone, they are still young.

They both won't be keepers though...he can only keep 3 hitters(a 4th if he was born after 1985) and he will already be keeping Braun and Longoria.

Not saying I wouldn't pull the trigger but it wouldn't be because they are both young it would be because those 2 guys are a very slight upgrade over Cano+"other player" even though it is a slight drop off in keeper value.

It's close though, either side would be doing fine.

I would make the trade. Pedroia and Ellsbury are in a Boston lineup that WILL begin producing a large number of runs. Pedroia and Cano will be very close in final rankings, Pedroia might even end up better. Therefore you are almost being given Ellsbury, who is a run producer and a base stealing fein.

P.S. - Please take a look at my thread and let me know your opinion on these two trades that were made in my league and what you think I should do as commissioner to promote fairness.

Look at how effective was Pedroia was for the short time that he played last season. Also, look how effective Pedroia has been so far this season. I don't see much difference between Cano and Pedroia, with Ellsbury being a gift on the side.

You don't even have to drop Span, drop Madson. Contreras is doing fine in the closers role and I think will have it for most of the season.

Agree- Madson is staying in the set up roll unless disaster strikes and Elsbury will get back to lead off in a bit, especially when Crawford starts hitting.

I'd do it!

Exactly, you are basically being given Jacoby. Make the trade with no regrets.
